The holiday season can be a trying time for those of us on a budget. Luckily there are a few days where prices are lower and deals are aplenty.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are holidays in their own right. These pre-Christmas sales always have big deals and big savings. If you haven’t joined the throngs of shoppers in the past this year it may be worth your while. Here are a few tips to making the most of your Black Friday and Cyber Monday…

Plan Ahead - Way Ahead

This year make a point to plan your shopping lists ahead of time. Know what you are getting who before you even crack open the holiday circulars. Once you know what you are looking for you can search for savings.

Retailers generally reveal their Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions in the weeks preceding the events. Instead of going in and being overwhelmed check out what the deals are and make note of where you need to go. If you plan accordingly you can figure out which stores you need to stop at and which you can avoid all together.

Compare Prices

One thing you will notice on Black Friday and Cyber Monday is that many big box retailers will have similar items on sale. To get the most out of your money compare prices at them all as well as online retailers that may have a bigger sale a few days later.

Grab flyers and save email blasts and lay them all out so you can see where the savings are the greatest. You can also use online tools and articles to compare - like this one from Fabulessly Frugal.

Get There Early

Most stores have Black Friday down to a science and have a decent enough stock that you won’t have to get in line at midnight to snag the savings. But you never know!

If the items aren’t in stock stores like Walmart and Target will issue vouchers or order the items to ship to you later. But if the deal is significant, in limited quantities, or the deal is set for a certain timeframe (like midnight - 4am) you have to get out there with the crowds. Instead of begrudgingly lining up in the cold make it into a fun adventure! People tend to be in good moods, believe it or not.

This also applies to Cyber Monday. You don’t want to wait until the evening to place your order because stock may be limited. Sometimes retailers try to keep traffic steady by offering certain prices at certain times to keep a lookout for those kinds of schedules.
