Save Money On Summer Travel

We’ve all been cooped up for over a year so summer 2021 has everyone thinking one thing - vacation! Even with the enthusiasm that comes with life opening back up you will still want to stay on budget as you hit the beach.

There are many ways to save when you are travelling, it all depends on what parts of the trip are the most important to you. If you like to dine out at fancy restaurants but don’t care about travel then get there cheaply. If you would rather fly first class but would eat a hot dog for dinner everyday then there is your compromise!

Here are a few ways you can save money on your trip this summer...

Avoid Tourist Hotspots

Tourism is big business and majorly overpriced. If you can avoid tours or overcrowded spots you will save a lot of dough. If you want to see famous places then head out on your own and leave the tour behind! A lot of great museums and parks are totally free wherever you go and you can show yourself around with a map or online guide. If you are going to a beachy location bring everything you need with you so you aren't buying overpriced necessities when you get there.

Don't Waste All Of Your Money On Travel

A great way to save is to look at different ways of getting to the vacation itself. For instance if you are going somewhere not too far driving will likely be the cheaper alternative. Don't forget trains and busses! It may take a little longer to get there but you will have more money to enjoy your trip

Figuring out another city's public transportation can be an adventure but it sure beats shilling out hundreds of dollars for cabs. Most cities and resort towns have some kind of affordable bus or train service used by locals. Save taxi trips for when you are in a rush or when you are truly lost and cannot figure out the public transportation. This way you can spend more money on fun stuff than logistical stuff.

Seek Alternative Accommodations

A five star hotel seems great but if you are going to be out exploring does it matter where you sleep? Look for cheaper places to stay, that aren’t so cheap they scare you, like economy hotels or even hostels. You can also find rentals on sites like airbnb.com that are much cheaper than an actual hotel. It's all about the research before you hit the road and the location in which you are headed.
